“That was unfortunate. That was essentially an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely unintentional, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I simply put up the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. But it got resolved pretty quick.”
Historical Precedent for Owner Penalties
This is not the first time an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Previous examples include:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
